Photographing the first days beyond the idea of perfection

The first days with a newborn are often portrayed through tidy, quiet, perfect images: babies sleeping peacefully, spotless homes, parents who are always smiling. But the birth of a person and of a family is far more complex than that.

Newborn lifestyle comes precisely from the desire to tell these days for what they are: intense, messy, tender, tiring, full of new gestures and of an everyday life that still has to find its rhythm.

That is why I mainly do newborn sessions at home, in Asti and the surrounding province. There is no need to prepare every room, to have a perfect home or to know how to pose the baby. I bring no sets, backdrops or constructed poses: I photograph what happens, following your pace and the baby's.

The center of the story is not only the newborn, but the relationship that grows around them. The hands reaching for them, the body of whoever holds them, a feed, a pause on the sofa, a sibling watching, a pet carrying on with their own routine while everything around has changed.

For me, photographing the first days also means making room for everything that is normally left out of images of motherhood: tiredness, vulnerability, mess, silences and those tiny gestures that seem insignificant while they happen, but that one day will be exactly the ones you want to remember.

A newborn lifestyle photo session is not meant to build the memory of a perfect family. It is meant to preserve who you were when everything was still new.
